Habitat environment forĀ  Amphibians and Reptiles

Lageia Cyprus

Winter is now upon us and the temperature has dropped in Cyprus, so we decided to construct a cave-shelter for our little friends to hibernate in. Also, over the last 3 months we have constructed a stream effect pond, which we hope will attract many reptiles and amphibians, also attracting flying insects to help develop a pollination settlement here at our Nature Retreat.

Hibernaculum ~ What is it for?

Reptiles, Lizards, Frogs, Geckos and numerous insects will need to take refuge under logs and leaves, usually heading underground where it is safe and also warmer. To help them along, we have created an artificial habitat using materials such as rocks and branches, plenty of grass and soil for covering, also adding some wild flowers to the top layer. Plastic pipes are important as they provide a tunnel to the caverns/caves, and sticks are placed along the pipes to help them get along. This habitat is around 2 feet in depth and 4 feet in length.
