Meet the Artisans: Shared Horizons

Welcome to Layia Village Crafts.

Here, two completely different creative paths converge—the vibrant strokes of fine art canvas and the rugged, aerodynamic geometries of ancient timber. United by the landscape of Cyprus, our work bridges the gap between precision engineering and organic beauty.

šŸ”¬ Peter Gallagher: The Precision of Flight
Medium: Wild Layia Olive Wood Sculptures
“For decades, my hands worked in the high-stakes world of advanced aerospace engineering, working with complex synthetic composites, structural fibers, and high-temperature fabrications (FR-HiTEMP) designed to withstand the brutal dynamics of flight. In that industry, everything is driven by absolute mathematical perfection, synthetic consistency, and strict blueprints.
Today, in the quiet of my studio at Layia Village Crafts, I have brought that exact same understanding of fluid aerodynamics, structural balance, and sweeping form over to an entirely different, living medium: ancient wild Olive Wood.
Wrestling with a dense block of reclaimed olive wood from the hills of Layia requires an entirely different philosophy. Unlike a factory-made composite matrix, which is perfectly uniform, a single log of olive wood is unpredictable, intensely dense, and packed with volatile knots. The resulting sculptures—such as the companion De Havilland Mosquito and Supermarine Spitfire—stand as a unique bridge between these two worlds, combining a lifetime of rigorous aerospace structural knowledge with a deep reverence for the organic character of Mediterranean timber.”

šŸŽØ Lynn Gallagher: Capturing the Light of Cyprus

Medium: Fine Art Oil & Watercolor Paintings
“Where sculpture demands structural geometry, painting allows for the fluid exploration of light, color, and atmosphere. Working in both rich oils and delicate watercolors, my artwork seeks to capture the timeless, sun-drenched spirit of the Mediterranean.
My inspiration flows directly from our surroundings—focusing deeply on the historic, winding stone streets of traditional Cyprus villages and the silver-green leaves of the ancient olive groves that have stood in these hills for centuries. Using vibrant oil layers to capture the deep textures of rustic village architecture, and transparent watercolors to track the shifting Cypriot light, my paintings stand as a visual celebration of heritage. Whether capturing a quiet valley landscape or the twisting trunk of an ancient tree, each canvas is an intimate study of the land we call home.”
